Editor’s Note: This post references AcuGraph 5, which has been succeeded by AcuGraph CS. The clinical concepts discussed remain applicable to current practice.

I’m often asked: “What is the AcuGraph Screening Exam?”

That’s a good question. An even better one might be, “WHY do I need the AcuGraph Screening Exam?”

I’ll answer both of these questions in this post today.

Benefits of the AcuGraph Screening Exam

1. The AcuGraph Screening Exam provides 2 tools in one:

screening exam report

First, it gives you the Screening Exam Mode, which assesses only the client’s hands. This eliminates the need to ask strangers to remove their shoes and let you handle their feet. Believe it or not, this is actually a sticking point for some potential patients.

Second, the Screening Exam generates the printed Screening Report. This marketing report compares the potential patient’s results with a normal graph result and graphically displays the need for treatment. Best of all, this report is just one page and is easily customized with your unique practice information, description and philosophy. It even includes the patient’s follow-up appointment time. It’s the most important thing the potential patient needs to receive from his or her encounter with you.

2. So, that’s great, now, WHY do I need the AcuGraph Screening Exam?

You need the AcuGraph screening exam because it’s a proven, effective tool to attract new patients at public events. Plain and simple. If you are going to a public screening event, health fair, speaking engagement, or practically any marketing function where you will demonstrate AcuGraph, you’ll be more effective with the screening exam than you will with a standard exam. It brings in patients faster and more effectively than anything else I know.

Who can have the AcuGraph Screening Exam?

The AcuGraph Screening Exam is automatically available for all AcuGraph 5 users, all you need to do to start a screening exam is to begin a new exam on a patient, and click on the “Screening” tab at the top of the window.

You can then select which points you want to measure for the screening exam, Source or Jing-well.

In the eyes of the patient, this 1-minute experience alone will totally change their paradigm in how they view you as a practitioner, and what kind of assumptions they already have about acupuncture.

So, there you have it! The AcuGraph Screening Exam is fast and easy, and a great marketing tool to help you connect with patients while in public!
