Spleen 9 (SP 9) is a powerful point. It’s main function in Chinese medicine is to resolve “dampness”. Dampness is not a normal diagnostic term used in western medicine, but it is actually quite simple to understand. When the Spleen and the Stomach channels are working together digestion runs smoothly, water and nutrients are well absorbed, and the the body metabolizes food intake well.
When these two organs are not working in harmony, a phenomena known as “dampness” occurs. Excess water within the system doesn’t move well and the patient experiences symptoms such as edema, swelling, bloating, gas, diarrhea or constipation, brain fog, sluggishness, difficulty with urination, and aching in the limbs.
This point will be very tender to touch when the patient is experiencing symptoms of “dampness”. It’s a great point for self diagnosis and wellness care. Daily stimulation of Spleen 9 will help jump start the digestive system. Often times practitioners will also combine Spleen 6 and Stomach 36 with Spleen 9 for for a beautiful digestive wellness treatment.
