The Pointoselect Digital: My New Favorite Auriculotherapy Tool – Part 2 4.97/5 (68)

In my last blog post I talked about some exciting NEW changes in auriculotherapy technology. If you haven’t read part 1 of this series, you can access it here:

Part 1: The Pointoselect Digital: My New Favorite Auriculotherapy Tool

Before I talk more about the Pointoselect Digital, I feel the need to write a tribute letter to the Stimplus Pro.

Dear Stimplus Pro,

Some things have changed in my life, but I need you to know that you will always be considered “My FIRST love when it comes to auriculotherapy.”  You taught me the value in finding electrically active points. You taught me that auriculotherapy can bring immediate results.

We have been best friends for so many years…

I’ve introduced you to my friends via blog posts, CEU courses, webinars, and Youtube videos. You have even traveled with me internationally to acupuncture symposiums throughout the world. You have been a great companion.

You might wonder if we are “completely breaking up”…

Not exactly.

I am moving on to a new tool for auriculotherapy, but I’m not retiring you “completely”.

The truth is, sometimes BETTER is BEST. You are a good device, but let’s be honest. Technology has advanced and so have I as a practitioner. I am seeing more and more difficult conditions in my clinic. I owe it to my patients to give the BEST I can.

Don’t worry. We are not breaking up. I’ll still carry you around in my purse when I’m traveling. For fast, convenient, basic treatment, you’re still my Go-To.

Thank you for helping me to become who I am today,

~Kimberly

Okay, now that I have given proper gratitude for the Stimplus Pro, can I tell you how excited I am to talk more about, and properly introduce, our NEW auriculotherapy device?

The Pointoselect Digital: A Game Changer

The Pointoselect Digital has been a real game changer in the clinic. Let’s talk about some of the differences between the Stimplus Pro versus the Pointoselect, and  what that means from a clinical point of view.

Sensitivity

The Stimplus Pro was good at finding points, but the Pointoselect Digital is BETTER! There are literally hundreds of points on the ear. Knowing which points are electrically active is only the first step in an effective treatment protocol. The next thing to recognize is this: Which points are positive and which points are negative?  Did you catch that? Just like on the body, some ear points are positive and some are negative.

The Stimplus Pro was only capable of detecting positive (monopolar) points on the ear. Positive points are excess in nature. This is why the Stimplus Pro has been so successful for treating pain related conditions, such as shoulder pain, instantaneously. The positive points related to pain that is excess in nature are really easy to locate.

The Pointoselect Digital automatically detects both positive and negative points (bipolar) on the ear. This is HUGE!

Conditions which are deficient in nature tend to be harder to treat. Tonifying the deficient points amplifies the effectiveness of treatment.

Here’s the EXTRA cool part…

When you scan the ear, the Pointoselect automatically detects the points which need to be tonified or sedated and automatically changes the treatment according to what is detected. Now, when I scan the ear for shoulder pain, or any other condition, more SPECIFIC points are detectible and the results are even better.

More Treatment Options

More advanced practitioners know the value of using the correct frequency for different areas of the ear to get the BEST results. Nogier frequencies are my personal favorite. The Pointoselect gives you many options. It is pre-programmed to treat Nogier, Bahr, and Reininger frequency sets. And if you like to choose your own frequencies, you have that option too (2-128 hz when you’re choosing your own).

Clinical examples with the Stimplus Pro versus the Pointoselect

Stimplus PRO

The effectiveness of the Stimplus Pro was “mostly good” because the frequencies offered covered “most of the ear”. The Stimplus Pro has the capability of treating 5, 10 and 20 Hz of electricity.

“Mostly Good” isn’t necessarily bad–but it is NOT the BEST. Like I said above, it worked really well for general pain related conditions.

In the Auriculo 360 auriculotherapy software, you can click on any treatment protocol and see which frequency is best for treating specific areas of the ear.

Although it has been a good basic treatment device, the Simplus Pro has “some” limitations—especially if you are an advanced practitioner. The Stimplus Pro is only capable to treating three zones of the ear with frequencies that are CLOSE to the Nogier frequencies, but not “precise”.

Notice the differences in the image above. The Stimplus Pro has three frequencies: 5 Hz, 10 Hz, and 20 Hz. The precise Nogier frequencies for those zones are actually. 4.56 Hz, 9.12 Hz, and 18.25 Hz. Before we had the Pointoselect 10, 10 and 20 Hz were “good” because they were “close enough”.

Now that we have BETTER, is close actually “enough”?

Pointoselect DIGITAL

With the Pointoselect Digital I can be VERY precise with my treatment. I simply scan the ear. Like I said above, Pointoselect is bipolar, which means it detects whether the points are deficient or excess.  Once the electrically active point is found, I simply push a button and treat with the EXACT, PRECISE, frequency as I move from zone to zone.

Can you see how my treatment just moved from GOOD to BETTER?

Amazing Results

Here’s the SUPER exciting part. Do you remember what I showed you in my last blog post? An experiment I did in my clinic CHANGED EVERYTHING.

Let me recap….

Miridia Technology asked me to try out the Pointoselect Digital. Of course, we always put our devices through “The AcuGraph Test.” Typically, I graph the patient, do a treatment, then regraph the patient 24-48 hours after the treatment to see how well the treatment changed the graph. The reason I regraph 24-48 hours later is two-fold.

1) If you put needles in the body it tends to scatter qi initially, and good graph results are not typical immediately following treatment.

2) It takes 24-48 hours for energy to run through the circadian cycle within the channels.

This time I broke the rules…

I graphed the patient, did an ear scan, used the Pointoselect Digital to treat the electrically active points with Nogier frequencies, and THEN immediately re-graphed the patient.

Did you catch that? I didn’t wait 24 hours. I decided to re-graph immediately after treatment.

That’s when everything changed. MIND BLOWING!!! Look what happened!!! One simple “5-minute” ear treatment balanced every single acupuncture channel in the body IMMEDIATELY.

I sent Dr. Adrian Larsen a message and said: “LOOK what just happened!”

Of course he questioned me…“You just graphed, treated and then, re-graphed? You didn’t wait for 24 hours?”

My answers was: “Yes! That is exactly what I did.”

He says: “Do it again and see what happens….”

So I did.

Can you just imagine how this has changed the dynamics in my clinic?

Auriculotherapy alone changes the graph! It’s simple… Scan the ear, find the electrically active negative and positive points, treat with the correct frequency and create balance in the body. The Pointoselect Digital ear scan treatment works as an effective ROOT treatment.

  1. Can someone without an acugraph use this tool the same way and get the same results? If so what is the best way for an acupuncturist to accomplish this and get the same results? If they need an acugraph, it appears that you are leaving out an opportunity to provide a tool that would be beneficial for all acupuncturists not just ones that have an acugraph

    1. Hi Cindy,

You make a great point. Not to worry though, no AcuGraph is required to fully use and benefit from the Pointoselect. The purpose of the AcuGraph illustrations in this article was just to show the demonstrable results.

The Pointoselect Digital is a stand-alone device that does not require any software for use. It can be used by any acupuncturist who wants to get great results with auriculotherapy.

    1. I tend to avoid using needles in the ear as they can be quite uncomfortable, tend to bleed, and sometimes present unique hygiene challenges. I prefer electrical location and treatment in the ear.

      1. Personally, as an auricular acupuncturist who uses filoform needles in individual tubes, (I use the Chinese auricular and not the Nogier system), I’d dispute that. It’s VERY rare for a needled ear point to bleed even if a person is taking anti-coagulants. And if the ear is cleaned with a steriwipe or even iodine before treatment ( and after treatment as well if you want to be doubley cautious) then there are no hygeine issues. Although I use tubed needles, my daughter who is also auricular acupunture trained uses the orange handled NADA protocol style needles. She doesn’t have point bleeding issues either. Of course, if Dr Larsen would like us to test run one of the Selectopoint pieces of kit, we’d be happy to give one a go.

        1. I have also been doing auriculotherapy for many years–along with body acupuncture. The veins within the ear are very close to the surface. Bleeding does occur, even with the best treatment strategies. Even though acupuncture needles are minuscule in size in comparison to hypodermic needles, the same thing happens on the body on occasion.

Having multiple options for treatment is always good. I’m excited to see so many practitioners from around the world who are having great success with the Pointoselect. Practitioners who used to only use needles are amazed at the success they receive when they fine-tune their treatment using specific frequencies. It’s amazing to be an acupuncturist in this day and age. Modern science combined with ancient Chinese medical theory is a game changer in the clinic.

So, what do you think about it?
