Some things have changed in my clinic for the BETTER. Does it mean that things were BAD before? Absolutely not. I did the best I could, given the resources I had at the time… Then I did better, because I could!
You’ve heard people use the old adage “back in my day”. I use it all the time with my kids!
- We never flew on airplanes. Our vacations involved a road trip, an ice chest, and sleeping bags on the floor of a tent or Grandma’s house.
- We didn’t have computers. Instead, we wrote our ideas on paper, annotated with 3×5 card and organized our life with a day planner.
- We didn’t have the internet. People learned from people, encyclopedias or the library.
Although I have fond memories of my younger years, and I still have great appreciation for the simple things in life, there is another part of me that is SO incredibly grateful and fascinated with the modern world of information and technology that I currently live in.
Honestly, for our generation, when it comes to the opportunities for learning and growth, everything has changed.
If we WANT to grow and expand, we can. If we want the newest and latest information from all around the world, it is at our fingertips. The box we used to live in no longer exists. The possibilities are now unlimited. We no longer live in a simple society. The world of information is at our fingertips.
With our collective minds, and the ability to explore, create and share knowledge, we are growing and learning at a rate I never dreamed of.
Now let me get to the subject at hand. A REALLY BIG change has happened in my clinic.
Let’s Talk Auriculotherapy!
When I first began using auriculotherapy, I did the best I could based on the resources I had available to me.
It all started in college. A textbook, a teacher, and a handmade auricular chart. It was a nice simple addition to a body acupuncture treatment. I would make a logical decision on which points to choose based on symptomatology. Then I’d treat, and hope for the best.
Then things changed…
Our world began changing. A text book, a chart on the wall and a handful of memorized “useful” auriculotherapy points were no longer the best resources. Modern practitioners wanted a more effective approach to treatment.
The debut of Auriculo 3D made auriculotherapy more accessible for the entire acupuncture community. Having a fully mapped out chart of the ear, in both 2D and 3D formats, along with protocols and reference information, helped practitioners become more successful. They had the information right at their fingertips they needed to easily treat the correct points for a variety of conditions and chief complaints.
Globally, the world became more aware of the value of auriculotherapy, because more practitioners began using it with success. No more flipping through text books. A simple search will bring up the information you need in the Auriculo 3D program.
Learning that ear points are electrically active when the patient has symptoms changed everything.
Taking a list of “suggested points” from Auriculo 3D as a starting point, then confirming which points to use, based on finding the electrically active ear points, made treatment 100% more effective.
Back in 2013 several things happened. I discovered the process of “seeing the deal” with auriculotherapy–especially with shoulder pain. After a body treatment, I would ask the patient if they were still experiencing pain. Any residual pain could be immediately resolved when finding and treating the electrically active point with the Stimplus Pro. In fact, my success in treating chronic pain conditions doubled.
Since then, I’ve taught thousands of acupuncturists around the world how to more effectively resolve chronic pain combining auriculotherapy and Stimplus Pro.
I’m Continually Growing
As always, the world of technology continues to grow… And so do I!
Here’s a phrase I often use when teaching:
“Today I’m teaching you what I am doing in my clinic NOW.”
“Talk to me 5 years from now, and I’ll probably be doing something different.”
Changes that I make in my clinic are ALWAYS due to progress. If I can get better results for my patients, then I’m all about moving on to the next phase.
Recently I did a really cool experiment with auriculotherapy, which blew my mind. It. Changed. EVERYTHING.
Before, I share the experiment, let me give a little background information.
Measuring Progress: As you know, I use AcuGraph in my clinic. AcuGraph is way to objectively measure the changes that are happening in the acupuncture channels. Before each treatment, I measure the electrical skin resistance on the source point of each acupuncture channel.
The results of this test are then shown on a computer screen to share with the patient–showing which channels are excess, which are deficient, and whether there are imbalances between acupuncture channels on the left and right sides of the body. The key point to recognize here is that I can document PROGRESS from treatment to treatment.
Passing the Test: I’ve been using AcuGraph for a lot of years. I know that effective treatment changes the graph. People bring me new tools all the time and ask me if I’ll try it out and endorse it. The bottom line is this… I’m willing to try new tools and techniques. If I experiment with a tool or treatment strategy in my clinic, it has to pass the AcuGraph test. If the new strategy doesn’t change the graph, then I’m not interested.
Miridia Technology asked me to try out a new device for auriculotherapy called the Pointoselect Digital.
The Pointoselect Digital combines positive and negative point detection, advanced treatment protocols, and popular preset frequencies in one powerful device. It’s everything you need for effective, convenient body and ear point treatment!
Another HUGE bonus is that the Pointoselect Digital is FDA cleared when you purchase it from Miridia Technology, the authorized US distributor. We COMPLETELY redid the manual (in proper English), created two all-new video training modules, and redesigned the box so you can understand how to use the Pointoselect correctly, and get great results immediately.
Whenever we try out new devices, we always put them through “The AcuGraph Test”. Typically, I graph the patient, do a treatment, then regraph the patient 24-48 hours after the treatment to see how well the treatment changed the graph. The reason that I regraph 24-48 hours later is two-fold.
- If you put needles in the body it tends to scatter qi initially, and good graph results are not typical immediately following treatment.
- It takes 24-48 hours for energy to run through the circadian cycle within the channels.
This time I broke the rules…
I graphed the patient, then used the Pointoselect treatment device, and then immediately re-graphed the patient.
Did you catch that? I didn’t wait 24 hours. I decided to re-graph immediately after treatment.
That’s when everything changed. MIND BLOWING!!! Look what happened!!! One simple “5-minute” ear treatment balanced every single acupuncture channel in the body IMMEDIATELY.
I was flabbergasted.
Of course he questioned me… “You just graphed, treated and then, re-graphed? You didn’t wait for 24 hours?”
My answers was: “Yes! That is exactly what I did.”
He says: “Do it again and see what happens….”
Read part 2 of this series to learn more about the Pointoselect Digital treatment device, and WHY this device has ushered in the next phase of auriculotherapy. The Pointoselect Digital is my new favorite auriculotherapy tool, and it’s changing everything.
I can’t wait to tell you more!
Webinar: Using the Pointoselect Digital for Superior Results
On Friday, July 13, 2018 Dr. Adrian Larsen hosted a free, live webinar about the Pointoselect!
The webinar was called “Using the Pointoselect for Superior Results.”
In the webinar, Dr. Larsen shared some interesting Pointoselect case studies, as well as information about how the device works, why it’s the best auriculotherapy tool he’s found, and how to use it.
The webinar recording is available!
