Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

Often, patients avoid so many summer activities due to the fear of excessive sweating! A day on the patio sounds amazing, but the fear of sweating through your outfit paralyzes you with embarrassment.

Excessive sweating affects people of all ages and can range from severity. But what they all have in common is the social aspect of feeling embarrassed.

Hyperhidrosis is a condition where the body sweats more than is necessary for normal cooling. Excessive sweating that affects the palms, soles and underarms is labeled focal hyperhidrosis. Excessive sweating that affects large areas of the body–both day and night–is likely a side effect from medication or a medical condition such as menopause, hot flashes, anxiety, or overactive thyroid.

Next time your patient is heading out to enjoy a day of summer, send them home with this following ear protocol.

Irritability

Obviously, irritability isn’t just a summer thing, irritability likes to show up year-round! However – in the summer there is sticky sweaty heat, lack of schedule, late nights and having the kids fighting in the background for 2 months! It is a recipe for extra irritability!

Irritability is defined as an excessive response to stimuli – becoming easily irritated, annoyed, or agitated. Often the most common demographic to experience anxiety is women with hormonal fluctuations. Nevertheless – every walk of life has the possibility to experience this condition.

Instead of staying stuck in this sensation, or resorting to unhealthy coping mechanisms, try this protocol on yourself or your patients!

Acid Reflux

Hot dogs! Alcoholic patio drinks! Camping snacks! With all the fun food, comes all the indigestion and stomach discomfort. For many people, summer is the time they struggle the most with acid reflux due to the many social events that are circled around food. Little bits of out the norm snacks can turn into lots of stomach distress. Often, during this time of year many patients completely fall out of their health regimes, so try the following protocol with patients to help keep their bellies happy during the summer fun!

Acid regurgitation presents with pain and discomfort that begins behind the breastbone which radiates upward to the throat and esophagus. This can be extremely uncomfortable and crippling for some people. To prepare for the next social outing, try out this acid reflux protocol!

Insomnia

Sleep is crucial for every cell in our body, as we need to heal and repair to create a strong system. Unfortunately, as of 2023, it is said that 1 out of every 5 adults struggle with sleeping each night. insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to fall asleep, hard to stay asleep, or cause you to wake up early and not be able to get back to sleep.  Insomnia can lead to further complications such as extreme exhaustion, weakened immune system, higher risk of motor vehicle accidents, and emotional disturbances.

At some point, many adults experience short-term (acute) insomnia, which lasts for days or weeks. It’s usually the result of stress or a traumatic event. But some people have long-term (chronic) insomnia that lasts for a month or more. Insomnia may be the primary problem, or it may be associated with other medical conditions or medications. If you, or your patients are experiencing insomnia, try out this protocol to get a good night’s rest.

Sunburn

Have you ever thought of using auricular acupuncture to help with topical issues such as a sunburn? Often when people think of ear acupuncture, they think of treating internal medicine issues such as anxiety and hormonal imbalances. However, ear acupuncture is a fantastic tool for treating skin conditions, such as a sunburn!

If you are lucky enough to live where it is sunny year-round, this protocol might be good at any time of the year. However, this protocol is the most popular during the sunny summer months!

A sunburn appears within a few hours after sun exposure and presents as red, painful ski that feels hot to touch. Extreme sunburn can present with blistering, high fever, extreme pain, confusion, nausea, or chills. Any part of the body can burn, including the eyes which feel painful or gritty when sunburned. Within a few days the skin begins healing as the top layer of damaged skin peels away. Up to 90 percent of ultraviolet rays pass through clouds, so it’s very common to get sunburn on hazy or cloudy days too.

There are different levels of auriculotherapy knowledge. Some practitioners may have an advanced understanding of the mechanics of the medicine, while others may only know the location of a few vital points. However, whatever level you’re at, we encourage you to learn more, keep practicing, and share your knowledge with others!
