As acupuncturists, we are taught to search out which imbalances are causing symptomatology to occur. I want to share a secret with you. <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">Last week, I became convinced that <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Band-Aid treatments may benefit my patients<\/strong><\/span>&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>Case Study<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A patient presented in my office on December 31st with a graph that looked like this.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: large; color: #008000;\"><strong>Baseline Graph:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Belt-Block2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3718\" title=\"Belt Block\" src=\"http:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Belt-Block2-1024x509.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"717\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Belt-Block2-1024x509.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Belt-Block2-300x149.png 300w, https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Belt-Block2.png 1027w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 717px) 100vw, 717px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Let&#8217;s analyze the graph for a moment. What do you see?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An obvious belt block. The channels in the lower body are in extreme excess compared to the upper body.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now let&#8217;s look at the graph from a different perspective.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: large; color: #008000;\"><strong>Element Graph:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Belt-Block-Element.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3720\" title=\"Belt Block--Element\" src=\"http:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Belt-Block-Element-1024x517.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"717\" height=\"362\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Belt-Block-Element-1024x517.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Belt-Block-Element-300x151.png 300w, https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Belt-Block-Element.png 1035w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 717px) 100vw, 717px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is the same information listed according to element pairs instead of hand channels versus foot channels as seen above.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Metal element:<\/strong> The Lung and the Large Intestine are out of balance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Minister fire:<\/strong> Pericardium and the Triple Energizer are both out of balance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Earth element:<\/strong> Both the Spleen and Stomach are excess.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wood element:<\/strong> Both of the Liver and\u00a0 Gallbladder are excess.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Just by looking at the graph you can come up with some helpful information about this patient without me even telling you his chief complaint.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Belt block:<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">Pain in the lower body<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lung and Large Intestine are out of balance:<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">Low immunity<\/span>, lacking in wei qi.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spleen and Stomach are excess:<\/strong> A lot of bad food choices? <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">Problems with digestion?<\/span> Notice that the date of treatment was December 31st. He was just finishing up a couple of weeks worth of holiday eating.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Liver and Gallbladder excess:<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">Pain, headaches, and irritability<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bladder channel split&#8211;with excess energy on the right versus the left:<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">Back pain which is worse on the right<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I am sure that by now you want to know what his chief complaint was.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large; color: #008000;\"><strong>Sciatica!<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He was surprised when I asked him questions about my graph analysis. Everything that I saw on the graph fit what was going on in his life at the time. He really didn&#8217;t care about the rest of his symptoms at that moment because he was in so much pain. I treated him by balancing the graph and then doing a typical sciatica treatment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Now, I will explain how my Band-Aid treatment came to exist. How do you treat sciatica, digestion problems, and irritability with Band-Aids? When this patient came back a week later, his sciatica was doing much better and so were his other symptoms. I now have several boxes of Band-Aids at my clinic.
