In general, I don&#8217;t think that one visit is enough for someone to decide whether or not acupuncture <strong><em>REALLY<\/em><\/strong> works. My perspective comes with years of experience. I have to admit that in my early years, I didn&#8217;t yet have the wisdom to know the value of a treatment series.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be honest, if a new patient isn&#8217;t willing to commit to at least four visits, as healing is a journey, <strong>they really aren&#8217;t the right fit for my practice.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep reading and I&#8217;ll give you a real life example of WHY treatment series are so valuable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Acupuncture Treatments are Cumulative in Nature<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically, a patient comes in because of a specific chief complaint, but the reality is that they have a LOT of imbalances. When a patient has a lot of imbalances, the body has to direct qi toward <strong>creating balance<\/strong> before the chief complaint can fully resolve.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means that to achieve long term results for the patient, it will take more than a visit or two to fully resolve the chief complaint. Why? Because of the cumulative nature of acupuncture, and the relationship of one imbalance\/source of pain to the other. I always tell my patients to expect progress throughout their journeys. In my clinic, <strong>a new patient is with me for 90 minutes.<\/strong> There are many steps in the new patient process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Taking pre-appointment phone calls to answer the patient&#8217;s questions<\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: &quot;Open Sans&quot;, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, &quot;Segoe UI&quot;, Roboto, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1rem;\">Setting the patient up in my electronic health records system<\/span><\/li><li>Sending pre-appointment emails and reminders<\/li><li>Filling out the new patient paperwork<\/li><li>Completing the intake and evaluation<\/li><li>Conducting an <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"AcuGraph exam (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.AcuGraph.com\" target=\"_blank\">AcuGraph exam<\/a><\/li><li>Equipping the patient with educational materials<\/li><li>Treating the patient<\/li><li>Setting up subsequent appointments in their series<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If I treated new patients all day long without the expectation that they would return, I would be exhausted at the end of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My new patients are taught from the beginning that treatment takes time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first conversation I have with any new patient typically goes something like this:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#fffed6\" class=\"has-background\"><em>&#8220;The imbalances in your body have led to the symptoms which brought you through my door. I&#8217;m really glad you are here and that you are ready to make some changes in your life. These imbalances have been here for awhile, so it will take a little bit of time to work through them.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#fffed6\" class=\"has-background\">&#8220;<em>In my experience, we&#8217;ll begin to see substantial, longer lasting results within 4-6 visits. I&#8217;ll treat you right now, and then we will look ahead and book your series of visits. My schedule is pretty full, so we&#8217;ll need to book your entire series in advance. I&#8217;ll graph you with AcuGraph each time you come for treatment so we can watch your progress. At the end of our series, we&#8217;ll evaluate how far you have come, and I&#8217;ll make recommendations for next steps based on your progress.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. <strong>Watch Progress and Adjust your Treatment Accordingly<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During the course of the patient&#8217;s treatment series, I&#8217;ll expect to see changes in their AcuGraph graphs. The graph, and resolution of symptoms, will indicate whether or not my treatment plan is working.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes the graph is stubborn and I need to get creative in my treatment plan. Creativity may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A different treatment modality\u2014body, muscular, ear, etc.<\/li><li>A different treatment tool\u2014needles, laser, electroacupuncture, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.Pointoselect.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Pointoselect (opens in a new tab)\">Pointoselect<\/a>, cupping, gua sha, tui na, etc.<\/li><li>Herbs and supplements<\/li><li>Topical herbal liniments<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/shop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/RS13980_Acupuncture-Treatment-Tools-Store-Image.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/RS13980_Acupuncture-Treatment-Tools-Store-Image.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/RS13980_Acupuncture-Treatment-Tools-Store-Image-300x144.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/shop\/\" target=\"_blank\">Click here to see all of the acupuncture treatment tools we offer >><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to estimate exactly what the patient will need on their first visit. If you book them for a series, you&#8217;ll have room for creativity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. As promised, I re-graphed her on her second visit to see how well she had progressed. She did great.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see, the graph now matched her symptoms perfectly. The &#8220;extra&#8221; imbalances had resolved. <strong>I could confidently tell this patient that she was going to get better results today than she did on her first visit.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you know why?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point, her body didn&#8217;t have to resolve the array of imbalances that were present on her initial visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1192\" height=\"1250\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Screen-Shot-2019-12-18-at-4.09.23-PM.png?fit=740%2C776&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Screen-Shot-2019-12-18-at-4.09.23-PM.png 1192w, https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Screen-Shot-2019-12-18-at-4.09.23-PM-286x300.png 286w, https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Screen-Shot-2019-12-18-at-4.09.23-PM-976x1024.png 976w, https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Screen-Shot-2019-12-18-at-4.09.23-PM-768x805.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1192px) 100vw, 1192px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When I do a <strong>root treatment<\/strong> to balance the graph and a <strong>branch treatment<\/strong> to focus on the patient&#8217;s symptoms, I can expect even better results.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. The Patient KNOWS that Acupuncture Works<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s how the treatment series progressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"688\" height=\"940\" src=\"https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Screen-Shot-2019-12-18-at-2.44.28-PM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Screen-Shot-2019-12-18-at-2.44.28-PM.png 688w, https:\/\/www.miridiatech.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Screen-Shot-2019-12-18-at-2.44.28-PM-220x300.png 220w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 688px) 100vw, 688px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Do you think this patient has any doubt as to whether or not acupuncture works?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On treatment #4 she gave a glorious report. Not only had her neck and shoulder pain resolved, but her symptoms of tinnitus were down by 50%. <strong>She also noted that her energy levels were better, sleep was better, and her general outlook on life had improved<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The graph speaks for itself.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In reality, this was a team effort. She committed to her health and gave me the time that I needed to resolve her problem. I gave her my best through the series and adjusted treatment as needed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. Transition From Acute Care to Wellness Care&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The patient in the example I gave is ready to become a wellness patient. Wellness patients are fun to treat! Honestly, they are the bread and butter of a clinic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my experience, once a patient is educated through the initial series, they often become patients for life. Many of these patients are proactive and come in for monthly wellness visits\u2014before they ever start experiencing symptoms.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others step away for awhile until their body starts talking to them again, which is perfectly fine as well. <strong>The key is, they come back.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why do they come back?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because they <strong>KNOW<\/strong> acupuncture works. <strong>You trained them well with AcuGraph!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7.
