Small Intestine 3 (SI 3) is the gateway acupuncture point leading to the spine by way of the shoulders, neck and scapula. Often this point is combined with Bladder 62, which opens the spine from the direction of the coccyx and the lumbar spine. The two points used together make a beautiful team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Internally this acupuncture channel crosses the heart and the intestines, which makes Small Intestine 3 a helpful point for palpitations, heart conditions, bloating, gas, constipation, and diarrhea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chinese Name:<\/strong> Hou Xi<\/p>

English Name:<\/strong> Back Stream<\/p>

Location:<\/strong> When the fist is half closed, in a depression proximal to the head of the metacarpal bone, at the junction of the light and dark skin.<\/p>

Attributes:<\/strong> Shu-Stream, Tonification, and Wood point of the Small Intestine channel. Confluent point and master point of the Governing Vessel. Command point of the Yang Linking vessel.<\/p>

TCM Actions:<\/strong> Clears the spirit-disposition; dispels interior heat; frees the governing vessel; secures the exterior.<\/p>

Indications:<\/strong> Headache; stiff neck; reddening of the eyes; deafness; hypertonicity of the elbow, arm, and fingers; heat diseases; epilepsy; malarial disease; night sweating.<\/p>

Secondary Indications:<\/strong> Cardiac pain; dark-colored urine; mania and withdrawal; headache and neck pain; gastric reflux.<\/p>

Needle Information:<\/strong> Perpendicular insertion .5 – .7 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
