Mac OS Catalina – Should I Upgrade? 5/5 (4)

Should YOU Upgrade to MacOS Catalina?

You may have heard that Apple has just launched MacOS Catalina. This new operating system includes a major software overhaul that will render many old computer applications inoperable after Mac Users upgrade.

We are pleased to announce that Acugraph 5, Points PC, and Auriculo 3D have all been updated recently to work with this latest MacOS release. Listed below are the latest versions of each software. We recommend updating to these latest versions.

AcuGraph 5 Version 5.3.2.1

Points Version 3.0.3

Auriculo 3D Version 3.1.10

However, we currently do not recommend that our users upgrade their computers to Mac OS Catalina.

Apple has made some very significant changes to this new OS that will affect lots of other software – some of which may be critical for running your practice smoothly. Specifically, any software installed on your computer now that is not “64 bit” simply will not run at all on Catalina. Most Mac users will have at least some of the older “32 bit” applications. So, at this time, we recommend holding off on upgrading to Mac OS Catalina until you’ve had a chance to confirm all the software you need for your practice is going to work smoothly.

If you are unsure whether the apps you need and use on a daily basis are ready for Catalina, click here to read a great article that explains how to quickly check to see if an app is 32 or 64 bit.

*****Special Notice for AcuGraph 4 Users

AcuGraph 4 was retired in 2015. We continued to support the software for one year, after which users chose whether to continue using the legacy software without future updates or technical support, or to switch to AcuGraph 5.

Many AcuGraph Users chose to upgrade to AcuGraph 5. Some users, however, chose to stick with AcuGraph 4, understanding the risk that it would one day become incompatible with changing computer systems. That day, unfortunately, has come.

AcuGraph 4 is a 32 bit application, so it will no longer run on Mac computers that are upgraded to Catalina. This means that if you use a Mac computer and wish to continue using AcuGraph 4, you will never be able to update your Mac again. If you do, AcuGraph 4 will no longer work on your computer.

The Good News

The good news is, AcuGraph 5 IS compatible with Catalina. It will continue to be compatible with all such future updates. In the rapidly changing world of technology, we have a technical support team committed to the functionality of AcuGraph. Honestly, there has never been a better time to upgrade to AcuGraph 5.
